Cancer survivors invited to special dinner

Life is Sweet is the theme of this year’s annual Cancer Survivors’ Dinner and all cancer survivors living in Cayman are invited to attend the free event.

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society, in partnership with Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands, is staging on Saturday, 16 June, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Grand Cayman Marriott.

Organisers said the event celebrates “the courage of cancer survivors, the fortitude of their health caregivers and the support of their family and friends”.

“This initiative is very important and cancer survivors need consistent support along what can be a frightening journey. It is our mandate at Sagicor to improve the lives of persons in places we operate and so our support of this event is natural,” said Mike

Fraser, president and CEO of Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands.

The dinner forms part of the international activities surrounding National Cancer Survivor Day and will provide an opportunity for cancer survivors, whether newly diagnosed or many years in remission, to unite in a symbolic show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and prosperous. It is a demonstration that though they may face emotional, physical, social and financial challenges due to a diagnosis and treatment, they can live active, productive lives.

National Cancer Survivor Day provides an opportunity for cancer survivors to connect with other survivors and to recognise the healthcare providers, families, and friends who have supported them along the way.

A survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer, from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.

Survivors planning to attend should contact Jennifer or Victoria at the Cayman Islands Cancer Society by calling 949-7618 by Friday, 15 June.
