Cayman residents now have access to a range of cosmetic procedures here on-island.
Dr. Victoria Karlinksy, a board-certified surgeon with many years experience of performing facial and body contouring procedures, is now offering her services exclusively through KY Imaging for one week every month.
Dr. Karlinsky is dedicated to enhancing her patients’ natural appearance through both nonsurgical and surgical procedures for the face, body and breasts.
Some of the cutting edge procedures she will be offering in the Cayman Islands, such as the use of stem cell-enriched fat injections, are not even available in the US.
Surgical Procedures for the Face
number of the simpler surgical procedures can be performed on-site in
KY Imaging’s mini operating room. For those requiring hospitalization,
patients have the choice of either the Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial
Hospital or the Cayman Islands Hospital.
and neck lifts, which are performed as outpatient procedures, can
restore youthfulness and reduce or eliminate wrinkles. Traditional face
and neck lifts tighten skin and muscles, removing the excess, which can
lead to a stretched or surprised look.
Dr. Karlinsky, however, uses an innovative technique of injecting the patient’s own fat from other body parts into the face, restoring plumpness and youthfulness. Mini-face lifts are less invasive and can be done under a local anaesthetic, to restore sagging jaw lines and gaunt cheeks. These involve making miniature incisions in the face through which fat can be removed and muscles tightened.
These procedures don’t correct loose, sagging skin on the upper and lower eyelids, but this can be addressed in a separate procedure.
Lips, cheeks and chins can also be enhanced with the use of implants and fillers. Because chins and cheeks can be reached through incisions in the mouth, there is no visible scarring.
In addition to using injectable fillers such as Restylane to create more pronounced cheekbones, self-donated fat can also be used in the place synthetic fillers. Like Restylane, the effects are not permanent but will last several months.
Surgical Procedures for the Body
Dr. Karlinsky offers a number of procedures for the body as well as the face.
Many women are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, but under Dr. Karlinsky’s expert care, their self-image can be much improved. Breast augmentations, reductions and lifts can all be performed, in addition to correcting previous surgeries that may have been performed at other facilities with unsatisfactory results.
For augmentations Dr. Karlinsky will go over the pros and cons of choosing silicone or saline implants, as well as the relative merits of implanting them under the chest muscle or under the breast tissue.
When it comes to reductions, large scars are common. However, depending on the individual, a scarless reduction may be possible: those with more fatty tissue than glandular tissue could be good candidates for reducing breast size through liposuction.
Men with overdeveloped breasts, or gynecomastia, can also undergo a combination of liposuction and excision of excess skin and tissue.
A number of body parts can be tucked, lifted and contoured through surgery, although Dr. Karlinsky always cautions that surgery is not an alternative to weight loss.
Procedures such as liposuction work best on stubborn fat deposits that do not shift with diet and exercise, and more extreme and invasive tucks and lifts are suitable for those who have lost significant amounts of weight already, leaving them with loose skin that they want removed.
Liposuction, which involves making small incisions in the skin and suctioning out the fat with a cannula, is suitable for stubborn fat deposits that cannot be shifted through diet or exercise. Hollywood-style liposuction, which Dr. Karlinsky also offers, is similar but not suitable for significant areas of fat. It is geared more towards sculpting or contouring.
Dr. Karlinsky also offers the very latest in liposuction technology, the “tickle lipo”.
Arms and thighs can be lifted and abdomens, or even larger areas of the body, can be tucked. Patients who undergo gastric bypass, or bariatric, surgery often lose a great deal of weight very quickly. The downside is, of course, the loose skin that is left behind. In addition to being aesthetically distressing for many patients, the skin can be prone to sores and infections. Dr. Karlinksy has received special training to help patients perfect their newly thinned bodies by removing the excess skin and tightening it up.
Such procedures may well be a necessity rather than a cosmetic issue and, like many reconstructive procedures, may be covered by health insurance.
Dr. Karlinsky also offers a whole range of non-surgical procedures such as Botox and Dypsort injections to relax facial muscles, dermal fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane and Juvederm, laser hair removal, spider vein removal and chemical peels.
Dr Karlinsky will next be at KY Imaging from 19 to 23 June.
