This week our attention goes to the most precious of our populous - our young children.
Week of the Young Child has been adopted in the Cayman Islands with the theme ‘Today’s Children... Tomorrow’s Leaders... Invest Wisely’.
It’s a fitting theme.
We do need to invest all that we have in our youngsters. The boys and girls who are riding their bicycles through our neighbourhoods and playing in our parks will one day grow up and take the places of the men and women who keep the economic and government engine of the Cayman Islands running.
They have to be prepared and we have to be the ones to prepare them.
Properly educating our children and directing their social and emotional development is crucial to ensure a positive future for our children and indeed, our country.
There will be many activities this week to recognise the youngest members of our residents and our future leaders.
The Observer on Sunday hopes that everyone will take some time out this week and focus on the youngsters in our midst and make a commitment to help them grow into the people they need to be to carry the Cayman Islands forwards when they take the reins.
