The sea has proven to be the life blood of the people of Cayman, not only providing a source of food but also a livelihood and a way of life.
This seafaring tradition continues with Thompson Shipping, a family run business, that has been shipping cargo and goods between the islands and overseas since 1973. The company moved to its Industrial Park location in January, 2011. They can be found on the corner of Portland Road and Shipping Lane in the new Cayman Shipping Centre, conveniently located directly across from both the Port Authority’s Cargo Distribution Centre and H.M. Customs. Thompson Shipping operates shipping service between all three islands, as well as acts as a local agent for Thompson Line/Tropical Shipping, with twice weekly sailings from South Florida.
The Thompson Shipping fleet can handle a wide range of ocean cargo transportation, including dry goods, refrigerated cargo, trailers, vehicles, boats, heavy equipment and aggregates to name just a few.
Through their sister company – Lemmie’s Trucking Services Ltd. – Thompson Shipping is able to offer a high-quality full service. Established in 1989 Lemmie’s shares its offices with Thompson Shipping and offers trucking services for both full container loads as well as loose cargo.
They operate a fleet of 14 trucks, with hammer lift, chassis, flatbed and lowboy delivery available. Lemmie’s also offers a specialised service with a crane truck and skytrack that are equipped with a personnel lift.
