The Cayman Islands Humane Society has the often unenviable task of taking care of Cayman’s abandoned animals.

However, every once in a while there is the opportunity to celebrate the successes of the organisation while at the same time helping the less fortunate animals who are yet to find a home.

This month, the society is hosting two of its most important events of the year – the Dog Show and the Furball.

The 21st annual Humane Society Dog Show will take place on Saturday 10 March at Camana Bay, on the open lot off the Galleria roundabout. Pre-registration starts at 8am, with the first event starting at 9am. Registration will be open until the start of each event.

With categories ranging from best neutered male to best costume to best trick, and including more traditional categories for terriers, sporting dogs and even Cayman dogs, the show is bound to be a hit with anyone who loves four legged furry companions of the canine persuasion.

The entry fee is $5 per dog per category, or five categories for $20. Funds raised will go towards the Humane Society shelter.

The event is sponsored by Camana Bay, Royal Canin and Animal House. For more information, email caymandogshow@gmail.com or contact the Cayman Islands Humane Society at 949-1461.

The big fundraiser for the year, the Fur Ball, takes place on 23 March at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort. The event will start with bubbly to the sounds of harpist Eugeneo Leon, dinner with live music by the Suite Elite trio, as well as a live and silent auction, with MC Jay Ehrhart presiding.

The dress code is tropical chic, and tickets are $150 per person or $1,500 per table.

The event is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Humane Society and is characterised by a relaxed atmosphere and fun spirit that is often lacking at big fundraisers.

To reserve tickets for the event, contact the Cayman Islands Humane Society at
949-1461 or email furball@easyconnect.ky.
