When it comes to bars up and down the Seven Mile strip, Aqua Beach is one of the best known of the bunch.
According to Shelby Sawatzky, manager at Aqua Beach, the success formula for the bar is simple – just good food, good people and a fun atmosphere where people are having a good time.
“Our focus here is to be a fun sports bar with a beach feel to it. We try to keep it exciting so there’s always something happening here,” says Shelby.
And he’s not kidding, there is something going on there every night. Some of the highlights include their $3 Wednesdays (shooters, beer, draught, everything is $3), open mic nights on Thursdays, an outdoor party on Friday nights and Fight Nights on Saturdays.
Add to that Industry nights on Sundays and different DJs each night for a great selection of music, and it becomes clear that the secret to Aqua Beach’s success is not so secret after all.
“Our staff are pretty outgoing and like to have fun with the customers, and that’s what we like here,” says Shelby.
When it comes to food, the focus is on the seven different hamburgers on the menu, which Shelby saying that choice is very important when it comes to finding the perfect burger. Of course, the same philosophy goes for finding the perfect beer, which is why having four local brews on tap is an important part of what Aqua Beach offers.
“We like the four different choices that the brewery has, so there is something that appeals to everyone, from the light beer to the White Tip, Caybrew, and then the dark beer, Ironshore,” says Shelby.
Although Caybrew and Caylight are the top sellers, Shelby’s personal favourite is the latest addition to the line-up, White Tip.
“I like the White Tip, just because I’m Canadian and it reminds me of the Molson Canadian back home. The White Tip is a little bit different from the Caybrew and the Caylight, which works really well for me.”
