While some are fortunate enough to do something creative for a living, many others (especially accountants) could find themselves getting into serious trouble if they decide to let creativity run rampant at their day job.
The Visual Arts Society offers the perfect outlet for those with artistic leanings who want to explore a different side of their personality.
With everything from art exhibitions and adult art instruction with noted artists like Avril Ward to ceramics open studio, there is more than enough opportunity for inspiration.
Of course there might be those who question whether pottery is something that could be considered What’s Hot. Well, apart from the firing, which is of course very hot, have you ever seen Ghost (no, not a ghost, the film Ghost with Demi Moore and the late, great Patrick Swayze)?
If not, do yourself a favour – you will never look at getting your hands dirty (with pottery) in quite the same way again.
Tempted? The studio is open on select Saturdays, as well as every Wednesday during June from 9am to 12pm. The session costs $15 for members or $25 for non members, including glazes and firing, with clay available for purchase.
The events are held at the Watler House Studio at Pedro Castle.
For those who find themselves drawn to media other than clay, on Saturday 16 June and 23 June there will also be an artists open studio from 9.30am to 12pm.
It is free for members or $5 for non members, and gives aspiring artists the opportunity to work at their own pace in an inspiring environment. This also takes place in the Watler House Studio at Pedro Castle.
On 8 June the Artist of the Season exhibition will open, with ceramics by Alan Darvill and acrylic paintings by Cira Bush.
The event, sponsored by the Visual Arts Society, will take place at the Watler House Studio from 6pm to 8pm, with complementary snacks and drinks.
The exhibition will also be open on Saturday 9 June and Sunday 10 June from 12pm to 4pm.
