When it comes to being healthy, too many people approach it from the ‘no pain, no gain’ perspective, assuming exercise must hurt and food that’s good for you must taste terrible.
If anything can persuade one otherwise, it would be Jessie’s Juices, where a healthy snack or drink is a treat rather than a trial.
Located next to Anytime Fitness in Camana Bay, Jessie’s Juices combines quirky, old fashioned charm with wholesome recipes and cutting edge technology. An ever changing menu of juices and smoothies is chalked up on large blackboards and the walls are decorated with muted murals.
A rack of jars filled with exotic teas lines one wall and fresh fruit and potted herbs are artfully scattered around. Individually wrapped homemade truffles and vegan brownies tempt you at the till, and an array of innovative chutneys beg to be taken home.
With rustic wooden tables, a shady outdoor seating area and an intimate, whimsical atmosphere, it’s a great place to meet, drink and eat at any time of day.
Dreamt up and created by a dietician, you can be sure that everything on the menu is loaded with vitamins, nutrients and all round goodness – as well as being packed with flavour.
Jessie has been experimenting with recipes since her university days and continues to do so with whatever fruits and vegetables are in season – so expect all manner of mango-inspired delights come June and July.
Despite the name, Jessie’s Juices is about a whole lot more than simply juices: there are rich smoothies, sweetened and thickened with frozen banana, vegan and vegetarian wraps made using the fibre-rich pulp from the juiced fruits, multi-coloured salads and a selection of sweet treats.
You’ll find powerful superfoods such as wheatgrass, spirulina and sprouted grains artfully blended with beets, carrots, avocados, chickpeas, almonds and greens, so that your cells can detoxify while you savour the flavour.
For those who remain wary of too much goodness in one go, you can opt for coconut milk, almond milk or regular milk in your smoothie, a shot of espresso in your breakfast pep up drink or a cheese melt for the protein-starved–a healthy diet needn’t be a top priority in order to enjoy the unique charm of this little corner of Camana Bay.
Jessie’s Juices is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, Saturdays 9am to 6pm and Sundays 10am to 3pm.
