It’s summer time, the kids are out of school, and all of a suddenly the top thing on the list for many parents is finding kid-friendly activities that mum and dad can actually enjoy.
Fortunately a number of spots offer family friendly events or are just by their nature more family friendly than others.
Going out for dinner can also be challenge, but Periwinkle at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, is a great option for the perfect Saturday evening family date night.
Not only does the menu offer excellent choices that will appeal to everyone in the family, but with a complimentary kids buffet for children 12 and younger, marshmallow roasting and s’mores, as well as a family friendly movie under the stars, it is the perfect evening out for parents and children alike.
And with a limit of two children per dining adult for the free kids’ buffet, even the biggest families will be well catered for.
On Tuesday evenings, Camana Bay serves up Moonlight and Movies, with a free family friendly movie shown under the stars in Gardenia Court.
The show starts at 7pm, so just bring a blanket, secure your spot on the lawn and enjoy the movie. Of course, stopping in at one of the many restaurants for an early dinner or even grabbing a picnic basket can make the evening even better.
Just keep an eye on the sky, because as with any outdoor activity, the weather can have an impact on the event.
Although the drive out might seem a touch intimidating to those who have spent long enough living on an island, heading out to Rum Point for the day is always a great option. The large expanse of shallow water makes it a great place for the kids to snorkel, while shade, food and beverages are close at hand once the parents run out of energy.
Another favourite with parents who want to meet up with their friends (and not just the parents of their kids’ friends) is Sunset House. From a couple of drinks and some snacks to dinner, the venue is great not only for parents but also for kids, with the waterfront location and especially the pool being a very popular draw.
And then, of course, there are the fountains at Camana Bay, which exerts a stronger draw on kids than any Pied Piper ever could. Parents can relax outside at one of the numerous restaurants or on the lawn while the children burn off some energy in the fountains. And of course if you ever have the urge to play around in the fountains yourself, there is no better excuse than having to gather up a wayward child.
