When it comes to Friday night, people tend to be creatures of habit, heading off to the same night spot to do the same thing they do every Friday night, and it’s not ‘take over the world.’

However, when you’re surrounded by four walls, you could be anywhere, and you are definitely missing out on everything life on a tropical island has to offer.

What Royal Palms set out to do is reinvent their Friday night with all the elements that make you want to live on a tropical island in the first place, like relaxing by the pool and dancing under the stars.

Although traditional pool parties are always a hit, when it comes to Friday night, people are not exactly keen to jump in the pool and then go and get changed before continuing their night on the town.

“We had to find a way for them to come out here, utilise the pool area but not in the pool, but then carry on and go to a nightclub afterwards,” says Phil Walsh of Royal Palms.

The solution they came up with must be one of the most spectacular dance floors Cayman has ever seen.

The dance floor goes over the pool at Royal Palms, but due to it being see-through acrylic, you feel like you are dancing on the water, surrounded by water. Add lights, smoke, lasers and fog, and you have an unbeatable atmosphere.

According to Phil most folks are a touch hesitant when they first venture out over the pool, but there is no need to worry – “you can put like ten cars on this thing, it is as solid as a rock” he says.

The evening definitely has a classy South Beach vibe to it, with the drinks specials only adding to the feeling.

Moet Ice is the champagne of choice, made to be enjoyed over ice. At $69 a bottle, it is already hard to resist, but when you book a poolside cabana for five or more people, you get your second bottle for free.

Absolut cocktails are also $5 for the evening, as they are a sponsor along with Moet.

“You come down at 10.30, sit in the cabanas and see something you’ve never seen before,” says Phil.

With an awesome mix of music, featuring a good sprinkling of top 40, Phil says anything goes when it comes to the music, and the dancing as well.

“We can play anything. If you want to act like an idiot, dancing wise, everything goes,” he laughs.

Once things wind down at around 1am, you can head over to Elements in the Strand where you will get half price entrance, whether you choose general admission or VIP access, so you can stretch the night out a little bit longer.

“Friday night is the one night when you want to kick off your shoes and you want to come out and have a party, have a great time and dance the night away. You can go into a nightclub, it’s four closed walls and you could basically be in a nightclub anywhere – or you can come here, where you’ve got the starts in the sky, you’ve got the pool, you’ve got the beach just metres away – everything combined.”
