Jeffrey Wilson is one of the hottest commodities in local music at the moment, rocketing into the limelight with a breakout performance at the 2009 Cayman Islands Jazz Fest, where he opened for Alicia Keys.

The artist describes his music as “touching and melodic, passionate yet fun” drawing on a mixture of inspirations ranging from pop to R’n’B “but always with an appreciation of my Caribbean roots,” says Jeffrey. The artists that influence his style include Usher Raymond, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars.

“They bring music to a level that I hope I can reach one day,” says Jeffrey.

He says his stage presence is still taking shape, but he tries to emulate artists who have had a big impact in his life, including Teddy Prendergrass, Al Green, Michael Jackson, Barry White and The Temptations, to name but a few.

Of course for every artist there is someone they would love to do a collaboration with and Jeffrey is no different.

“I would honestly love to do a collab with Usher Raymond someday. He has been my idol since I was 14 years old and it would be such a great learning experience for me,” says Jeffrey.
What drives Jeffrey to perform is the exhilaration of being on stage in front of an audience.

“I feel free when I’m on stage so I love every moment of a performance. The perfect moment would definitely be when I’m able to connect with the audience. It’s a very satisfying feeling when I can move the crowd with a powerful song that I’ve made my own,” says Jeffrey.

Jeffrey performs with the Unity Band which consists of Garret Galloway on keyboard, Jerome Derby on bass, Kimberley Louden on drums and Scott Child on guitar.

“Each band member brings a unique flavour to the team and I am definitely grateful for being able to work with such an awesome, diverse band,” says Jeffrey.

So what’s next for the rising star?

“I have a few exciting things up my sleeve like some fresh singles and some collaborations with international superstars like Tarrus Riley. Watch out Cayman!”
