Tips for a safe swim
TOPIC: Watersports & Recreation
May 2. 2012

Main Story:

Splashing through the Flowers Sea Swim

Position correctly:

If you are a slower swimmer, do not line up right at the front of the field, as things can get pretty rough up amongst the competitive swimmers. Rather line up a little bit further towards the back of the field, where things are likely to be a bit more relaxed.

Pace yourself:

A mile is a long way to swim, so don’t let the excitement get to you. If you head off like a torpedo, you are going to run out of breath quickly, making the rest of the swim a slog as those who started more conservatively come streaming past. Rather start slowly and pick up pace as you go.

Be nice:
As you will be sharing the water with 799 other swimmers, swim in the way you would like others to swim. That means not swimming over anyone else, not kicking anyone (on purpose at least) and not slapping the feet of the person swimming in front of you time and time again.
